Stable Diffusion is the most widely-used open-source image generation model. Developed by Stability AI, it runs locally on consumer GPUs, giving users full control over generation without cloud dependencies. The ecosystem includes thousands of community fine-tunes (LoRAs, checkpoints), ComfyUI and Automatic1111 interfaces, and commercial deployment options. SDXL and SD3 pushed quality to professional levels.
